Quarterfinal Results

At Sendai's Yurtech Stadium FC Tokyo came from a goal down to beat Shimizu S-Pulse thanks to a brace by FW Shingo Akamine. Yokohama F Marinos also came from a goal down to ruin Sagan Tosu's dream at Saga's Best Amenity Stadium.
In Okayama, home to next years J2 debutants Fagiano Okayama a thriller was held between J1 Kashiwa Reysol and J2 kings Sanfreece Hiroshima. Kashiwa scored after just three minutes through DF Koga, however Hiroshima replied in the sixth minute through FW Sato. Kashima struck back immediately in the 13th minute through MF Suganuma but once again Hiroshima's Sato was unstoppable in setting up the equaliser in the 26th minute for Sanfreece. After the reamaining three quarters of the game was left scoreless it was up to Franca to pop in the winner in the ninth minute of additional time.

Round 5 Results

Round 5 produced some close results and also a couple of boilovers. Yokohama edged out Urawa in PKs after they saw Urawa peg back their two point lead and go into penalties. FC Tokyo also came back from 2-0 down and nailed Albirix with three unanswered goals to win 3-2. Shimizu and Kashima fought out a very evenly contested game with Shimizu winning in the end thanks to two extended time goals.
The two J2 teams both produced stunning performances as Sanfreece beat Frontale by two, and Sagan Tosu destroyed Vissel by a masive 5-2.

Round 4 Results

Round 4 saw the J1 teams stamp their feet on the cup and defeat almost all of their J2 rivals. An exception was Sanfreece Hiroshima, who although a man up, had to leave it to the last minute to beat Tokyo Verdy 1-0. In the other shock result recently crowned Nabisco Cup championed fell back down to earth when they were beaten by Kyuushuu rivals Sagan Tosu 0-2, through a brace of goals to MF Koji Hirose.
In perhaps the game of the round, Kokushikan University held the lead twice against J1 Kings Kashima Antlers only to lose out in a PK challenge. Goals to Danilo and Marquinhos saved the 2007 Emperor's Cup winners from sure embaressment.
In other games FC Gifu, Vegalta Sendai and JEF Chiba all suffered defeats to last-minute goals.

Round 3 2008

Round 3 ended with most of the J2 teams coming out on top. As always there was the odd exception of Kokushikan University, Tochigi SC and Matsumoto Yamaga all defeating Tokushima Vortis, Roasso Kumamoto and Shonan Bellmare respectively.
The round saw most of the non-J2 teams playing hard fought games and keeping respectable sorelines, although one of the suprises was Honda FC's 4-0 loss to Sagan Tosu.
In the J2 vs J2 game, Mito came out on top with an extra time 1-0 win over Avispa Fukuoka.

Round 2 2008

Round Two produced solid wins for Fagiano Okayama, Matsumoto Yamaga FC, Sagawa Insatsu and Sony Sendai to name a few. Osaka Sports university followed up round one's shock upset over TDK with another impressive win over Grulla Morioka. Zweigen Kanazawa also claimed the scalp of their second JFL team after downing Kataller Toyama 2-1 in Kakogawa. The other shock result of the round was Tochigi uva SC's dramatic 2-1 win over JFL club JEF Reserves.

Highlights for the first round in the 88th Emperor's Cup included a 6-0 thumping by JFL club Fagiano Okayama over Hitachi Kasado, a 1-0 win by JFL Kataller Toyama over Prefectual league powerhouse Bantidonce Kakogawa, and Sony Sendai's 10-0 thrashing of Tamaho FC.

As always though there were a few upsets with Kamatamare Sanuki sneaking a 1-0 win over in form JFL team Gainare Tottori, TDK losing at home 2-3 to Osaka Sports University and also Gifu Second being knocked out at home 1-0 by Osaka South University.
