Round 2 Results
Matsumoto Yamaga FC vs Urawa Reds
The second round of The Emperor's Cup 2009 came with a few twists, but none was bigger than Matsumoto Yamaga FC's 2-0 victory over Urawa Reds in front of 15000 odd fans in Matsumoto. Urawa totally dominated everywhere, except on the scoreboard, where Matsumoto scored in each half, to give the home fans a victory they'll never forget. In saturdays action, University representatives Fukuoka University pulled out a dramatic 3-2 victory over out-of-form Mito Hollhock, while Tokyo representative's Meiji University held on grimly to the death as Shonan Bellmare threw everything at them, recording an impressive 1-0 victory.
On sunday, Fukushima United shocked J2 front-runners Cereso Osaka 2-1 in Osaka. Fukushima led early but got pulled back even at half-time, before they scored the match-winning goal with just minutes to go. Honda Lock and Kagaya Taiku University both scored impressive wins over Tokyo Verdy and Tokushima verdy respectively.
In the battle of the J2 teams, with the exception of FC Gifu's 1-0 win over Tochigi SC, all games went to penalties with Avispa Fukuoka, Kataller Toyama and Yokohama FC all coming out triumphant.
